Little Miss Blake weighed in at 10 pounds 3 ounces and what an accomplishment. My itty bitty Blake is finally putting on the LB's. Weight...to go girl!
So I decided to read my first posts on this blog and it really seems like an eternity which in reality was exactly one year ago that we were waiting with anticipation for a phone call to let us know that our life would never be the same. I remember finding out we were having twins and Richard thinking he was going to have a panic attack in the Baptist parking garage. Oh how time flies by. These thoughts bring me to the book called On The Night You Were Born. We love reading this book to B and D. It discusses how special they are and how there is only one of them in this world. We have been given the greatest gift even though it's tough we could not imagine our life without them.
The Black Bag:
Oh little black bag how I wish I could call it little. It's my scotch tape, my ying and I'm the yang, my static cling. I take it everywhere I go and boy has it logged some hours with me. This friend of mine is my pump. Without it I would be lost. This ole bessy cow has officially made it six months and I must say I'm quite impressed with the tata's production. Originally when I set out this goal it was so unknown if I would make it this far. To date they have not let me down. It's so "amazing" how our bodies work. (plug to the bachelor) I must admit that I can go through a pint of Ben and Jerry's mint chocolate cookie like no other. I crave it like crazy and now I use the excuse that it's for breast milk production.
Shadoobie doobie doo:
That's right whenever you say in a high pitched cheesy voice "Do you have a shadoobie for your mommy?" The response is an adorable smile and coo right back at you. And for some reason I love changing time. As weird as it sounds or smells I find it so fun to talk to the little boogers and just have a convo with myself to them. They love it and I love it too.
This picture of Blake is a typical day in my laundry world. We go through so many outfits and my laundry is piled high. I can barely keep up well I should say I'm so far behind it's ridiculous.

Both Blake and Dax are now rolling over from stomach to back and this has been quite the challenge on tummy time. We have been putting a lot of emphasis on tummy time; however the little one's immediately get off their stomachs.
"Twins? How do you do it? I can't imagine how hard it is."
This seems to be a common question/comment we get on a daily basis so I thought I would dedicate a section to answer this question. I decided to document a day for the blog but also for my entertainment and to one day look back on this wild time in our lives. Our living room looks like a daycare with all the crap. We have a big blue mat that has all of their toys, mats, bumbos, bouncers, and a diaper station sitting in the middle. Our kitchen counter is covered in bottles and our laundry room looks like a tornado came through.
The Freezer: When purchasing the freezer it was a joke that it would be breast milk and frozen beer mugs. I know Richard really never thought that would happen but it did. At one time this entire freezer was full. Others who have seen it will verify this in not a joke it was packed full of frozen milk including some milk from another mom in NICU...just a small hospital mix up. This is what we have left of our frozen milk stash.
The Laundry Room:
Well I touched on it earlier and I'm sure some would be mortified by this but when you have two screaming at all times laundry being put away is last on the list.
This is what I call the backblaster station. I hose the babies off if we have a mess and this Oxiclean I'm telling you it's a miracle on the stain fighting. To date I have gotten every yellow stain out. I really believe in this magic potion and would love to be on a commercial blasting my stains. This stuff is pure magic I tell you.
The Fridge:
All bottles are prepared for the day so when you have a screamer you are not wasting time measuring out the milk. The labels let us know which bottles have vitamins so we don't overdose anyone.
The Charts:
This allows us to pick up a shift and know exactly who ate when, medicine that was given, and diapers. This allows us to pin point a problem should one arise for example constipation etc. When dad comes home he knows exactly when the feed will be while I'm at the gym. This helps the sitters as well. The three hours flies by and before you know it they are hungry again so by looking at the chart you have an idea of when to get bottles warm and medicine in the mouth prior to the feed.
Bottle parts everywhere |
Eat, Play, Sleep:
We stick to this routine in three hour increments. They both will let you know when they are tired and hungry and pretty much have it down to a tee. Both are still sleeping through the night and doing so good.
Teething:
Oh my goodness we are teething and with the teething comes poop monsters. Everything goes in the mouth and really it grosses me out. Now I know why kids get so sick all the time. It's because everything goes in the mouth. We have drool and clear snotty noses now. I have to be careful because it grosses me out so I can't use my bulb like I would like to or I will iritate thier little nostrils.
Both are laughing and talking up a storm. Blake loves to blow bubbles and it cracks us up. Dax loves to grab at anything especially noses. His hair is getting so thick that it spikes with water alone. We introduced the jumperoo and the round the world activity center which they both love. They are still a little short so we have boppys underneath along with cushions in the seats. They are so fun to watch as they discover new things each day. They really love it when mommy dances to the music whenever they push the buttons. Remember the movie "Can't Buy Me Love"? Yes that is the dance mommy does.
6 Month Check Up:
Blake weighs 12 pounds 3 ounces, 22 inches long and 1.02 percentile for a 4 month old and below 5.54 for a 6 month old. She is wearing 0-3 months clothing and is just the cutest little thing I've ever seen who is so calm and sweet.
Dax weighs 15 pounds 15 ounces, 25 inches long and in the 19th percentile for a 4 month old and 7.23 for a 6 month old. He is wearing 3-6 month and some 9 month clothes depending on the brand. The little dude is growing like a weed and becoming quite the demanding little monster at times.
This month flew by and it's crazy to think that 6 months ago I was waddling out of the bed to count contractions. The bull was driving at a snails pace to the hospital and our lives were changed forever at 12:49 and 12:50pm. Enjoy some of our favorite pictures from this month.
mmmama and dddada
Researchers believe that your baby can now understand all the basic sounds that make up his native language. Between this time and 6 months of age, he'll develop the ability to make some of these sounds, which means you may hear the words you've been dreaming about, namely "mama" and "dada." While child development experts say it's too early for your baby to connect those sounds with you, that won't make hearing them any less exciting.
You can encourage your baby's attempts at communication by mirroring or imitating his expressions and sounds. He may try to imitate you, too. Say "ba" and he may try to say it back.
Reacting when your baby makes noises or tries to say something will help him learn the importance of language and better understand cause and effect. It's great for his self-esteem, too: He'll begin to realize that what he says makes a difference.
