Momma I'm coming home...

Moving Day: 04-03-11
This is a huge development! We were moved from the critical care side to the non critical care side meaning we are closer to going home. All of this went down Sunday night after we left. We are so excited to move from that side; however each baby has their own room. Not really a fan of this but the upside is that we are getting closer. I came down with a soar throat so I was banned for 24 hours to allow enough time for the antibiotics to kick in. As I was leaving the clinic I received a call to bring Dax's car seat up for the car seat test. What are you kidding me? I'm sick and we are testing for him to come home, OMG I'm not ready. I never thought this would be my reaction. Again a little numb since he failed two crib tests so it's hard to get excited when you have been let down.

Rooming In: 04-05-11
Tuesday night we stayed at the hospital, no wires, no alarms, a tiny room with a full size bed, oh and did I mention an inferno room. Literally 80 degrees and they expected us to sleep in there. First words out of my mouth were I'm not sleeping in this heat, it's not a realistic temperature to be testing his body temp in. Of course anyone is going to be over 97.8 when you are layered up in an 80 degree room. So after my fit the temp went down and Dax barely held his temp. At 3AM we turned it from 73 to 76 and his 6AM temp was 97.9 (barely over requirement) Overall he did really well, we are both exhausted and this is only day one. Mr. Dax weighed in at 5 pounds 15.8oz what a weight gain compared to Feb. 27th. We are so proud of our little eater.

Daddy and his babies
Since we roomed in we were able to check on Blake throughout the night which was nice. Discharge the next morning was the hardest day for me. It was harder than the day I was discharged because I knew we were leaving Blake there by herself. Again I knew this was going to happen but did not realize how hard it would be. I cried the entire drive home. It was truly a bitter sweet day in so many ways.

First Night: 04-06-11
Dax man did really well, he stayed on the NICU schedule and has been a very pleasant baby. Not a lot of crying until daddy decided to watch the Thunder game at normal sound levels. Mom went to bed so dad had to deal with the monster he unleashed. Grandma Foster was able to hold Dax for the very first time. She was very excited to finally get to hold the little mini me of her son. I'm sure it brought back so many wonderful memories of Richard as a baby.

The nursery was completed the next morning by my mom. Cathy Haskett Interior designs, she did a wonderful job. I just love it! Thank you Cathy!!!

04-07-11 I'm not staying here...

Literally we got a call that overnight Blake was taking her bottle, holding her temperature, and pooping as she should be and that we could be taking her home as early as Sunday. She did a complete 360 turn around and the nurses told us they see this a lot in twins. Some what of sense that the other one has left. Well this was great news for us because we were close to completing our family. Next thought...Oh shit we don't have a car to haul both of them in. Saturday we got ourselves a car, got a call from NICU wondering where we were and the news that Blake's jaundice was back, this time a different form and that they were doing some additional ultra sounds on her liver and that she was not holding her temp. We also learned that she would not be coming home. My heart sank however I knew that this was the best because a sick baby needs to be in the hospital. Luckily the results were good with her liver.

Blake is ditching this joint 04-11-11:

What a beautiful day! Both of my sweet angels are on the way home. We took Dax up to the hospital to get their hospital pictures made. Daddy on the other hand was a little distressed by my choice of outfits for his son....classic timeless smocks.

We are quarantined to the house for 6 weeks meaning only outings are for doctors appointments. I had to take a class called Leaps and Bounds at the hospital explaining the risks associated with germs and their immunities. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to interact with them for 6 weeks. This is a precautionary measure to prevent sending us back to the hospital. My sweet niece Riley who I dearly love is not allowed to see them.

Week 1 at home:

My mom and sister have gone above and beyond helping us this week. I can not thank you both enough for how much I appreciate what you two are doing for us. You have no idea how much it is helping me. Plus Blake and Dax know their Mimi and Auntie Who HOO. The babies are on their NICU schedule waking every three hours and it's very nice. Dax is starting to stay awake a little longer looking around and checking out this world. Blake is still sleeping a majority of the time but getting there. We were a little scared of bath time and put it off till we absolutely had to do it. Neither of us wanted to deal with the screaming and the "torture" of a bath. Finally we decided it was time. Both Blake and Dax to our surprised did not cry once. We were shocked by this.

Please enjoy some of my favorite pictures from our first week. Thank you for all the calls, emails, and texts.
